• Troupe Hipnosis (PA)
Hipnosis is a Tribal Style belly dance troupe from the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. All three co-founding members, Maeve Doyle, Jessica Staley, and Vikki Williams, got their start in cabaret style belly dance, but were very much intrigued by American Tribal Style belly dance….by the exotic and elaborate costumes, the controlled and earthy movements, and the idea of dancing with a group of women as one unit. “When I first heard of belly dance, this is what I envisioned” ~ Vikki Williams. Each member separately searched out this new form of belly dance, and eventually ended up at the same crossroads. Sharing similar artistic visions, a desire to grow as dancers, and an eagerness to expand on what they were already doing with tribal belly dance, they came together in the fall of 2003 to form Hipnosis and have since formed their own unique improv tribal style of belly dance. Their goal is to share this beautiful dance with others while basking in the joy and camaraderie that exists within tribal belly dance. >>Website
Verve Tribal (MD)
Verve Tribal performs improv-based bellydance inspired by the technique and philosophy of FCBD American Tribal Style bellydance, while also incorporating choreographed and fusion elements for a more contemporary bellydance experience.
Verve Tribal formed in 2007, out of a friendship that developed in Avalon Yoga’s bellydance class, taught by both Rebecca/Kumari and Jessica/Bastet. Since then, Christina and Flissy have enriched their studies with well-respected local and national teachers.
Flissy is a certified yoga instructor, and can also be found teaching ATS in Baltimore. More on her teachings at http://www.omchantress.com/. Christina is the creative mastermind behind http://www.sihayadesigns.com/, jewelry for the sacred and the profane.
• Samantha (DC)
Samantha Hegre is a fusion belly dancer from Washington, DC. Known for long, elegant lines & unique musical choices, she had danced to sounds ranging from birdsongs to Brahms. A classical musician by trade, Samantha loves to delve deep into the musical structure & meaning when creating a dance, and seeks to create evocative works. To this end, she is a co-creator of Braindance collective, which produces programmatic & thought-provoking dance theater. Samantha is a continuing student of the Suhaila Salimpour technique and has earned her level 2 certification in this format. >>MySpace Page
