The Belly Horror Show

Casts Its Spell at the Birchmere on Friday, October 21, 2011.

WASHINGTON, DC—The acclaimed Belly Horror Show will return to the Birchmere, “America’s Legendary Music Hall,” in Alexandria, VA, on Friday, October 21, 2011. Now in its 6th year, this one-of-a-kind cabaret features internationally renowned performance artists in a sinisterly sensual smorgasbord of modern belly dance, vaudeville and burlesque, inspired by things that go bump in the night.

Ten extraordinary acts, selected from an international pool of over 50 applicant artists, will mesmerize anyone who loves a bit of the dark side this Halloween season. Comedy and vaudeville musical act The Slomski Brothers serve as hosts for the Belly Horror Show which features performers from London (UK), California, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

Weekend Festival Features Workshops, Artists’ Bazaar, Dance Parties, and More!

The Belly Horror Show launches a weekend festival that attracts enthusiasts and artists from coast to coast. Highlights include belly dance workshops for all skill levels, make up workshops, and an artists bazaar featuring one of a kind accessories, Halloween related gear, clothing and costumes. the weekend culminates in a Saturday night show of festival participants and a closing Sunday evening dinner show. .

Behind the Scenes With Co-Producers Belladonna & Mavi, Belly Horror’s Creators

The Belly Horror Show is a collaboration between two local artists, Belladonna Romka and Mavi Clay. These talented innovators have more than 20 years of combined dance studies and debuted the Belly Horror Show in 2005. What began as “a community event, for and by dancers” has evolved into an elaborately staged extravaganza for the general public. Sold-out performances have captivated audiences at the Warehouse Theater, DCAC, Sitar Arts Center and the Birchmere.

“We designed this show and festival to empower artists to explore alternative themes and celebrate all that goes bump in the night. We’ve been rewarded by an audience that is as enthusiastic as we are, and artists from all over the world applying to perform.,” explains Mavi. “Originally, we chose our friends and artists we respected to perform – six years later we receive performance applications from all over the world!”

Belladonna adds, “there’s something in this show for everyone! I love providing the opportunity for performance artists’ to explore the narrative side of belly dance and our chosen line up of talent have created performances ranging from spooky to campy fun.”
